Most doctors will not give you morphine unless you are already being treated with some type of opiate pain medicine and he has to make sure your body can tolerate the morphine. Morphine can be habit forming so make sure no one takes your medicine but you and put it out of reach. Do not drink alcohol while taking morphine because it could have serious side effects and could even cause death. You should also check food or medicine labels and make sure they don’t have alcohol in them while taking the morphine. Never take more morphine that the doctor prescribed and if it stops working talk to your doctor.
You should not just stop taking the morphine cold-turkey because you could have bad withdrawal symptoms. You need to talk to your doctor before you stop. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to a narcotic medicine do not use morphine. If you have asthma or bowel obstruction you do not need to take morphine.
