What Is Alcoholism?
Alcoholism is now classified as a disease that effects individual people with compulsively drinking alcohol. It is craved intensively by a person and they are not able to manage the urge to drink or keep drinking. The more drinks a person takes and the length of time that they consume alcohol, the stronger the hold that the alcohol is allowed to take over your body and control your life.
Many people who are addicted to alcohol will crave alcohol just like a person who is hungry would crave food. The difference is a hungry person needs food but your body doesn’t need alcohol. People will continue their consumption of alcohol no matter what damage it causes to their health, relationships, family or even destroying themselves.
Alcohol dependence has been proven to have been passed genetically through out families. Your lifestyles, environment and stress levels also play important roles in development of this disease.
Just because you feel you are at risk of becoming an alcoholic, does not mean you will. Understanding the risks involved can be the protecting factor that gets you help if needed.
